A project entitled "Improving Quality of Human Resource in Medical Service System" was signed yesterday by the Ministry of Health and the Japanese International Co-operation Agency (JICA).
The five-year project will start in June this year with a JICA grant of US$5.3 million pledged to focus on priority activities such as hospital management, treatment and hygiene standards.
Hospitals including Bach Mai, Hue Central and Cho Ray as well as others from across the country will benefit from the project.
"I hope through the project, the training of staff in the health sector will be implemented comprehensively across the country. Healthcare staff will be trained in the latest techniques which should improve the quality of treatment," said Nguyen Thi Xuyen, Vice Minister of Health.
At the signing ceremony, Tsuno Motonori, chief representative of JICA, affirmed that Viet Nam's health sector had made remarkable achievements but only focused on big cities.
The project will hopefully be effective all over the country.
"The project will also improve co-operation between JICA and Viet Nam's Ministry of Health," he added.
Last week, JICA and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development signed an agreement for a $5.5 million grant that will be used to improve sustainable forest management in north-western Dien Bien Province. — VNS
