Dengue fever is booming in a number of localities after several patients were hospitalised after they began suffering from side-effects.
Many patients suffered from prolonged fever and fatigue, while others were hospitalised for internal bleeding, vomiting blood or brain haemorrhages, said Dr Trinh Thi Ngoc, head of Bach Mai Hospital's Infectious Diseases Faculty in Ha Noi.
The Health Ministry's Preventive Medicine Department reports more than 4,300 dengue fever patients have been treated during the past eight months.
"These patients would have died if they had not received timely emergency aid," she said.
Health experts warn that the Dengue fever epidemic is caused by two viruses, D1 and D2.
The disease has been diagnosed in Ha Noi and HCM City and Khanh Hoa, Phu Yen, Dac Nong, Gia Lai and Kon Tum Provinces.
