Others    Anti-cancer vaccine works where drugs, radiation fail (Aug 27, 2010)

Japanese scientists have successfully developed a cancer immunotherapy vaccine, reports The Mainichi Daily News.
Trials show that the vaccine simultaneously activates immune system cells – killer T cells and helper T cells – to boost immunity, it says.

The vaccine had eliminated cancer in a patient after drugs and radiation had failed. Hokkaido University scientist and researcher Takashi Nishimura was reported as saying helper T cells were a type of lymphocyte that helped keep track of antigens, including cancer antigens.

Previous vaccine experiments and test had focused on the activities of the killer T cells alone.
