Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has instructed health officials to take firm measures to combat dengue fever.
More than 55,400 dengue fever cases have been reported nationwide this year.
Dung asked provincial and municipal People's Committee chairmen to mobilise all available forces to fight against the disease and to closely monitor affected areas to prevent the further spread of the disease.
The Prime Minister instructed health officials to send aid and personnel to affected localities, where they will assist and inspect the implementation of measures to stamp out the disease.
Local health clinics are required to prepare essential prescriptions and equipment to treat dengue fever patients promptly to prevent potential fatalities.
The PM asked the Information and Communications Ministry to increase the dissemination of information to raise the public's awareness about preventive measures and to stop the spread of incorrect information about dengue fever.
The Health Ministry reported that HCM City and Da Nang City have been hit the hardest by the dengue fever outbreak.
